Sorry if I missed it, but has anything been said about what’s going to happen to the train full of oranges, now that there is a new stadium sponsor?
A flatbed full of AC units, no doubt.
It should be re-styled as a Buck Rodgers like space train filled with giant vacuum tubes.
Apparently large baseballs.
I’ll really miss those giant pumpkins.
Those balls are juiced!
It’s likely the people most unhappy about the announcment were competetitors for the roster spot, too.
I remember reading an article early in spring training about how some teams in some stadiums would try out challenges to umpire calls of balls and strikes based on automated balls-strikes. Then I forgot about it and never heard how the test went. After yesterday’s opening day umpire I’m feeling kinda positive.
Slow your roll, Admiral Goobersmooch.
That’s supposed to inspire faith in umpires?
I guess I misunderstood what you were feeling positive about. I thought you were implying you had a little more faith in the umpires, not the auto-ump. Upon further review, I get it now.
And Adrian Johnson is a funny guy, but a terrible umpire.
Sorry, I realized I was being confusing after I thought about your post. I was trying to say I was feeling positive about automated calls.
Yup. I realized after I reread it what you were going for.
As part of new TZ rules you are allowed to appeal a post to AI to determine who should be confused.
Is it automatic?
Two per thread, and you have to request review by pounding your head on the table.
The ABS system is great. It happens super fast and injects actual levity into the sport. It’s going to be really interesting to see how it ultimately ends up affecting the umpires.
