Anyone that didn’t like a fucking kid that hasn’t played above AA getting a special announcement for making the OD Roster can kiss the fattest part of my ass.
That is so fucking stupid.
Also, Singleton being a vocal anything hurts my fucking head. The guy only stayed relevant last season because there wasn’t an average replacement player available in AAA.
On Chandler Rome’s latest podcast episode he notes that even with the stunning performance, Smith may not have made the roster if not for the fact that many veterans in the Astros clubhouse were clamoring for him to make it. Apparently he has blown them all away with how he carries himself, the “combination of humility and confidence” as Dana Brown put it, and the vets think he is more than ready to contribute.
Sounds like it’s not the Astros clubhouse leaders that are upset, but other players that were fighting for roster spots or made the team for the first time and didn’t receive such an announcement.
In other news, Rodgers got the last roster spot. I’m curious what his share of playing time will be. I’d start him at 2B until he plays his way out of the role, with Dubón doing what he does best all around the field.
Every single last one of those players who were rubbed the wrong way about this can eat a giant bag of dicks. The kid just made the Major Leagues. It IS special, and Espada, and every single one of those butt-hurt players, should treat it like it is.
Just to be clear. I think recognition and celebration in the world is a too rare and good thing.
Furthermore, in this situation - the realization of a lifelong goal that required work, time, perseverence, and sacrifice from not only the player, but those close to him, especially those included, should be celebrated.
My understanding is that this is not how MLB teams have done this in the past, but it is a huge improvement IMO.
I thought the post was interesting and thought provoking. I want it to be clear that I don’t ageee with it.
And watching the video makes me happy I’m an Astros fan and that I live in 2025 and not 1975.
