Whitley doesn’t seem to be actually injured, they just want him to stay in Florida and get some reps.

That’s good news. Not sure that’s how the IL is supposed to work, but I suppose the league’s not going to question why Whitley’s in his natural habitat.
I heard he WAS hurt, though apparently the bone bruise was 1/10th of 1% as severe as Tucker’s last year.
But even though it only cost a few days, it set him behind without enough time left in ST to catch up.
More roster decisions:
- Singleton has been told he will not make the OD roster. He’s out of options so this could be the end of his Astros tenure
- Montero, King, Okert, and Contreras have made the bullpen
Disappointed VanWey didn’t make it. Don’t know what more he could have done.
Been on the 40 man roster
I really liked that Singleton made it back. Best of luck to him.
A click on some “new” players in today’s game surfaced a new name & possible story:
(Undrafted 2023 FA) Lucas Spence).
Noted: “ …hasn’t been in the Houston Astros organization very long, but some of the bosses know who he is.”
Singleton cleared waivers and was granted his release. Rome says he may still re-sign with Houston but will explore his options first.
Cam Smith is on the opening day roster
I hope he is actually ready. Sure is a risk calling up a guy who this time last year was in college and only has 32 minor league games under his belt, only 5 of which at AA.
I hope Dezenzo gets the other bench spot instead of Hummel.
The team is opening themselves up to criticism, but I am terribly excited by Cam and by the prospects of this season.
The Astros are taking some risks and I like it.
Yeah, don’t get me wrong, if they think he’s ready then I applaud them for making the move. I fully believe in his talent and hope he wins rookie of the year
He did. Hummel didn’t make the squad. ABs may be hard to come by, but he’s the better player, and they’re not leaving talent in the minors this year.
Not only did he make the roster, he’s starting in RF OD.

Two new corner outfielders. I hope whoever’s in CF is ready to cover some ground.
Congrats to Jake on the newfound job security.
OK
So, In a vacuum, I am in favor of Altuve playing LF instead of 2b.
But is this team better with him at 2b with Zach and Cam in the OF corners
or
Him in LF and Rodgers at 2b?
Have they said if Dezenzo will make it?
