WeMo doorbell fixed with help from their telephone support. Apparently you’re supposed to read the instructions or something. The only difficulty was that I lost 3 pints of blood standing outside for about 5 minutes after all the rain today.
Now I have a doorbell, camera and motion sensor at the front door. You can set a zone on the motion sensor so that it doesn’t trigger every time someone walks by on the sidewalk. The camera livestreams and will upload recordings to iCloud when motion is detected, and all this behavior is configurable separately for when you’re home or away.
The doorbell rings the original chimes and on any HomePods (I have two minis) but you can turn any or all of these off. It will also show the livestream on your iPhone and, if you’re using it, a Mac or Apple TV. If you allow access to your photos, it will suggest the identity of the person at your door based on people tagged in your library.
Smart locks have arrived, but I’m not installing them tonight as I do not want the mosquito squadrons outside to get in.
The advantage of ordering both at the same time is that they are keyed the same. Looking forward to getting those set up tomorrow, skeeters permitting.
Smart locks were a breeze to install and set up (it may have helped that I was replacing professionally installed Schlage locks, so the new ones fit right in).
They connected straight away to the Home app, so now I have a “HomeKey” on my phone and watch to open either door, so buhxbye door key. I added them to my “Goodnight” scene so that they will lock when I go to be in case I left one unlocked by accident.
Talk to me about solar panels, and solar systems. Had a couple of guys from “Vision Solar” stop by this morning and give me a proposal for a house.
Not too interested in this house, because it’ll be sold relatively soon, but I’m highly interested in new house and existing Mueller building elsewhere.
