DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Bulls pitcher Tyler Zombro appears seriously injured after he was hit in the head with a line drive in Thursday’s game against Norfolk.
Zombro fell face first and began convulsing on the ground. The game was stopped so medical personnel could attend to Zombro.
Players from both teams appeared very emotional, kneeling and praying after the incident occurred.
I saw a replay. OMG.
Video is horrific. Thankfully he’s in stable condition at the hospital, undergoing tests and observation.
Updates from this morning about overnight have been positive. He remains in stable condition.
He’s getting out of bed and walking with assistance. “Progressing in the right direction” was the quote from the Rays.
So, batters and coaches ( base) are required to wear helmets. Why aren’t pitchers? Why aren’t infielders?
