I get it, but I also hate a hard shot up the middle turning into an easy out.
So be it, as far as I am concerned. If the SS or 2B are behind the bag, be Wee Willie Keeler.
The problem is that we remember Wee Willie because there just arenât many Wee Willies.
Oh, please. Major league hitters are skilled enough to hit the ball the other way. HS hitters learn to do that before their egos overcome their good sense.
As an aside, imagine a player today putting up with a nickname like âWee Willieâ.
I will readily admit that I donât know whether hitters not going the other way is an ego choice, a coaching choice, a data-driven choice, a result of the modern increase in velocity resulting in hitters sitting on breaking stuff, or what.
It ainât a coaching choice, I guarantee you.
And I hate outfielders catching hard-hit line drives. Maybe we should start a movement to pull them all into the infield.
Itâs a financial choice.
Are you bothered by a Prevent Defense in football?
As is almost everything these days. Gee the old LaSalle ran great âŚ
We saw him managing the Montgomery Biscuits a few years back.
