Baseball America’s take on Martin before the '25 draft:
Martin is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound righthanded reliever who pitched out of UC Irvine’s bullpen for three seasons. He’s been an up-and-down strike-thrower throughout his college career, but turned in a strong 2025 campaign when he posted a 3.76 ERA over 38.1 innings with a 24.1% strikeout rate and 4.9% walk rate. Martin is a lean and projectable pitcher with a lot of room to fill out, and he operates with a drifting, drop-and-drive delivery that includes a low three-quarters slot. He primarily throws a sinker/slider combination. Martin’s fastball sits 90-94 mph and will touch 97, with plenty of armside life that helps him avoid the meat of a barrel and induce lots of groundball contact. It’s less of a whiff pitch, but he did a nice job landing it for strikes at a 70% clip this spring. Martin throws a sweeping, low-80s slider as his go-to secondary. It was effective against both lefties and righties in college, and should continue to be tough on righties in particular at the next level. He’ll also mix in a mid-80s changeup primarily against lefties.
Tall righty for tall righty. Martin’s having a decent first season in pro ball. Not many strikeouts, but hasn’t given up many hits and has kept the ball in the yard.
