At least he got to live the dream for a little while.
I knew it was bad but I just saw it pointed out that only Brown and Framber started more than 15 games this year. How in the hell were they even in the running to make the postseason? Pitching is a must add
I believe Brown and Framber were the only 2 pitchers who threw over 75 innings in 2025 (192 and 185.1)
eta I’m wrong: Gusto and Gordon both threw 86 IP
Abreu, Okert, and Alexander threw more than 71
Urias DFA’d to make room for Miguel Ullola on the 40-man, protecting him from the Rule 5 draft.
I expect Urias will be traded in the next couple of days. Somebody will give up something for him rather than hope for a waiver claim
I’m a little surprised he was let go in favor of Dubon given the extra salary that Dubon will command. Trying to read the tea leaves here but Dubon’s ability to play all three OF positions including CF is the main difference between the two players. Is he the insurance policy should they trade Meyers….and Cole and/or Cam don’t pan out?
Or, is it just as simple as they decided to keep the superior player? I know Espada really like Dubon.
Dubon can play all three outfield spots and shortstop, Urias can’t. Besides being more versatile, Dubon can serve as Peña’s backup, and Urias couldn’t.
90% Dubons versatility and 10% how loved he is in the clubhouse. You can count on one hand the number of guys who can play 7 positions at a reasonable to high level
Their projected arb salaries were closer than I realized. Without a bigger gap it’s a really easy call to keep the more versatile guy. Clubhouse presence is a nice bonus. I wonder if they’ll try to work out a two-year deal to keep Dubie’s AAV down.
That’s a great idea.
So right and so obvious….but missed it bc of my belief that they will trade Meyers.
Matthews started 8 games in CF in AAA over the last 3 weeks of the season.
If they trade Meyers and don’t get a CF back, I expect Cole or Melton to win the job with Matthews possibly platooning vs ( some or all) Lefty starters.
If Meyers is not traded, Matthews has to beat out Allen rather than Dubon to make the team.
Allen has 29 career innings at 3b. Big roster difference there from Matthews. I suppose Smith could backup at 3b.

Based on current roster - Correa and Paredes are the 3B.
I’m pretty sure either Allen or Matthews could be a #3 third baseman especially since both are in their mid-20s and have played the position within the past 2 seasons.
