Yordan Alvarez has a “pretty significant” left ankle sprain that will keep him “out for a while,” Joe Espada said.
2nd tweet:
Yordan Alvarez remains on the Astros’ active roster. Asked whether he would go on the IL, Espada said: “did you just hear what I said? This is going to take some time. Listen, one day at a time. I’m not going to give you days, weeks, what we’re going to do next.”
Doesn’t necessarily mean anything given Astros history reporting on injuries but I’m glad to not read the words “tear” or torn” or “broken” in the update. That gives me hope that he could play again at some point this season.
Brown, Valdez and Alexander will be the pitchers against the Mariners this weekend. Hopefully Framber pulls his head out of his ass and remembers how to pitch. We need him badly this series.
Framber needs to spend the night at on the mound looking out at the left field foul pole to reset his mind. He is not in a good place mentally right now.
I wonder if his impending free agency and his poor performances are fueling a downward spiral. He seems the sort who could be standing on the mound wondering how much that last hit (or worse, error) cost him on his big payday.
One of the few former pro YouTube channels I occasionally watch is that of former pitcher Trevor May. He does an occasional “ask Trevor” thing where people ask him random questions, most, at least the ones he features, are pretty good questions around “how does this work for Big Leaguers?” kind of thing. On his latest, he’s asked how return from the IL works. In other words, what goes into determining when a player is ready to come back from injury. He said it was different for different teams, but the interesting part was he said when he played, the Astros (Jeff Luhnow and James Click) were known amongst the players in the league as a club who rushed guys back without much concern for how the players felt. He said “I don’t know what they’re like now, but that was the reputation they had back then”.
