Roster Moves 2025

I have it rough around here. MM threatens to beat me up once a week. Waldo makes me give him my lunch money. It ain’t easy being me.

Come on HH, you need to be sing’n, “Damn it feels good to be a gangster!”

Ort too???

Yep. Ort “out for an extended period of time” is all that’s been said by the club

Brown said pregame it will be 2 weeks before they can reevaluate and then he’ll need rehab

I read this and immediately thought it was Hunter.

JP France is back, Vanwey optioned

Walter and Rooney getting surgery on their elbows. Arrighetti getting a second opinion on his.

How can you reach any other conclusion than this being a systemic issue for this organization?

You can’t.

But what explains it? It’s not like they’re insisting that everybody throw screwballs. And in many cases, they’re telling guys to more fastballs, which would seem to be easier on elbows. This is the same coaching staff and, presumably, philosophy that have been in place for years, and we’ve not seen anything like this in previous years. As unsatisfying as it is as an explanation, this may just be a fluke.

It’s way beyond my knowledge but I imagine today’s coaching makes it more complicated than one pitch or another being easier on the arm. Teams have computer models spitting out velocity- and spin-maxing mechanical adjustments based on high speed camera body tracking, and it’s pushing guys to the limit on fastballs and breaking balls alike.

Some recent research has associated increases in elbow varus torque with increased risk of UCL tears. I find it fascinating but struggle to understand it because I don’t even know what elbow varus torque is.

From Chandler Rome:

Throughout his nine minor-league rehab starts, Garcia demonstrated decreased fastball velocity, but team officials hoped that adrenaline and pitching in a major-league game would naturally boost it.

HOPE. IS. NOT. A. STRATEGY.

If that is true, it’s disappointing to hear. Not because he got bombed, or because they mistreated him or rushed him back, but because it pretty much signals his career is over.

I also don’t have any problem with them bringing him back up to pitch based on that report. If everything looked healed structurally and he wasn’t reporting abnormal pain, shutting him down again indefinitely wasn’t an option for the Astros or for him. At a certain point you have to get back on the mound even if it’s just to prove that it’s all over. (cc: LMJ)

Yeah, I feel bad mostly for him. He had a lot to offer and solid future ahead of him.
