Altuve not in tonight’s lineup but they say that’s just a regular rest day.

Rodgers has his rehab assignment in Sugarland cut short by “lumbar spine inflammation”. And the beat goes on…

I put the Astros chance of winning tonight against a Colorado team that is 56 games below .500 at around 20%.

Looking at both teams’ records in the last 30 games (both 12-18), one would hope they would at least play competitivly against each other but, with the hobbled lineup, I fully expect another 5+ run loss to the worst team in baseball.

McCullers to the bullpen.

Yordan day off, LMJ available in the pen

eta from Rome:

Lance McCullers Jr. is available out of the bullpen, Joe Espada said. Espada characterized the decision as a “short-term” move and hopes it can get McCullers going.

Does this presage the return of Garcia?

Didn’t multiple people post Red’s Shawshank quote about “hope”?

Or is it the Tim Robbins one?

“Get busy pitchin’ or get busy fryin’.”

Both have a hope quote.

Red says hope will drive a man crazy.

Robbins says it’s a good thing, etc.

So would the Astros be interested in Walker Buehler, and if yes what are the chances they could do so? Looks like you’d have Texas, Kansas City, Cleveland, and then the Yankees of which we are tied in record, so not sure how that tiebreaker gets done in terms of order? National League you would have essentially the Mets. It seems we’d have the priority over everybody else.

Obviously, his numbers have been terrible and I have not checked Baseball Savant to look at velo and spin rates. Just wondering if he’s the type guy that the Astros could fix because Lord knows we still need arms.

Did he just get DFA’d?

Yes.

eta: sounds like he’s going back to the Dodgers

Just giving a glace to his savant, Velo seems fine and a couple of his pitches look usuable. His cutter and knucklecurve are getting crushed, his 4-seam isn’t much better but the velo is in line with previous years. His sinker has been a productive pitch and his changeup and sweeper have good numbers, albeit in a smaller sample size. Idk if they have changed his pitch mix during the season but he’s thrown too many different pitches. Simplify it to a sinker/change to lefties and sinker/sweeper to righties would be what I would look at. Didn’t dive into location and other factors but my initial thought is yes, I think the Astros could fix him.

Cool. Thanks for the dive. We need pitching. I hope we try and get h. It does sound like Dodgers are interested but we have waiver priority over them.

If the Astros were to claim Buehler off waivers, they would be on the hook for the remaining $3.4 million on his contract for this season. Considering they already rightfully moved McCullers to the bullpen and Luis Garcia is nearing a return, I doubt they claim Buehler. And if they don’t claim him, I don’t see him choosing the Astros over other options.

I feel like they moved McCullers to the bullpen bc he was ironically killing the bullpen while in the rotation. I presume Garcia has options. He could continue on in AAA while they see if Buehler can be made successful. Also, I don’t think money is an issue but could be wrong of course.
