That’s all for Taylor; Yimi Garcia coming on

Machete

Lines out to center

Top 9

Pedro Baez making his Astros’ debut

Not a good start. 90 mph fastball that was hammered foul.

Diaz

Seeing-eye single to center

Hilliard

Strikes out swinging on a good changeup

Boom

Motter

Grounds into a 5-4-3 double play. Game over

For all the talk about how slow Baez works on the mound, I thought he was just as quick as anyone else.

Nice win tonight. Big night for Jones and McCormick and nice to the see shutout.

Baez topped out at 91 mph on his fastball; He routinely hit 94-95 last season. That said, he does have a very good changeup.

From the rehab appearances I saw in person and online, he was routinely living in the 80s but still missing a lot of bats and inducing soft contact. It will be interesting to see how his decreased velocity plays in the ML but as long as he throws quality strikes and avoids walks, his fb/changeup combination can get outs.
