Honor Blackman, best known as lesbian stunt pilot Pussy Galore in the James Bond film Goldfinger and as Dr. Cathy Gale on The Avengers TV show died today at age 94.

The Avengers gave us great examples of smart female characters before it was trendy (and then wasn’t again). Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg, Linda Thorson and, in the reboot, Joanna Lumley. They were the show’s action heroes while Patrick McNee ambled around with a magic brolly.
