Brain cancer. He was considered by many as one of the top 10 all time great rock drummers. I hated Rush back in the day but have grown to appreciate their unique musicality.

He was considered by many as the top 1 all time great rock drummers. Hard to nail that down, but no doubt his reputation (and talent) was immense. Certainly one of the most influential rock drummers of all time. Let’s also no forget he wrote all of Rush’s lyrics.
He was also, by all accounts, a nice guy. He wasn’t the most outgoing personality, but word is he was very modest, sincere, and thoughtful. Sort of the opposite of many rock stars of his stature.
