Espada definitely managing this series like he doesn’t care if they win or lose. Between the lineups, pinch hitting or lack of, relievers used, just all points to an “eh whatever” approach

How does Abreu not pitch at all this series when all 3 games have been close?

Sigh.

That was not winning 2 of 3.

Ugly.

Got nothing else.

  1. at least its over

  2. JV looked solid.

And road trip to Baltimore and Philly.

We all knew these 14 games would be a test. So far, a D- is looking to be a lofty goal.

What’s important is that he managed to get Trey Cabbage two at bats with the game and series on the line. That’s managing, I tells ya.

“Yes. Definitely Espada’s fault.”

I was unable to watch or to follow the GZ today. How did JV look?

Bregman popped up with bases loaded? Damn mattress.

Yeah but he waited until the first pitch to do it.

JV didn’t look bad. I think he retired the last 10 in a row. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to be an ace anymore, but he can still be very useful. But you’re likely to have to score 4 or 5 runs to win his starts.

Glass is more than half empty, eh. First start in how many days on the IL, and this your assessment?

JV looked really good for a first start back. Outfield let him down for the two runs and he labored a bit in the first two innings. I think he threw 42 pitches through two. If he was a little sharper in the first and second he might have given you 6 innings today. Velocity looked good too, his last pitch was 95 and he hit 96 a couple times which I think is a good sign.

I missed most of the action today until the last few innings.

But they played some ragged ass defense in this series.

No, I was pleasantly surprised that he looked as sharp as he did after such a long absence. And his curve looked good. But he also gave up some hard-hit balls, and he’s a 41-year-old power pitcher. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect two-hit shutouts anymore. That doesn’t mean I think he’s a bum.

That is exactly was I was asking for. Thank you, Doyce.

We have an OF problem with no obvious solutions. No, I do not regret trading Loperfido to get Kikuchi.

Ok, thank you.

This is the glaring problem right now, and there really is nothing to do but hope that somebody gets hot. Maybe somebody will DFA somebody somewhat useful before the end of August, but that seems unlikely.

ETA: I suppose there’s a chance that Tucker comes back, but even if he does, how long will it take to get his stamina and timing back?

A second resurrection?

Tucker ain’t coming back. We should just get that hope out of our heads.
