From my experience in unions, I would disagree with you. But you have greater insight to mlb than I do so maybe you’re right. I haven’t seen their contract.

They had their union busted once already. They are not nearly as powerful as most unions. Certainly not on the level of the players.

But on a side note…is there no point at which you would be unwilling to play with another musician, despite how poorly they play and ruin performances night after night?

Tucker with his second homer of the night making it 12-5

I’ll add that in addition to being in 4 different unions, my wife is in 3. I’ve served on numerous boards negotiating collective bargaining agreements. Having done that, I know that every contract is very different and allow for various actions that other contracts don’t provide. So…. Fuck if I know how the umps handle business.

I can guarantee you that the prospect of robot umps will guarantee more flexibility in job removal. If not, then they should’ve elected different representatives. That’s what would be their fault.

On a side note…umpires aren’t as hard to fire as you think. One of the big reasons they aren’t is because MLB is afraid of the impression that they manipulate game outcomes by preferential umpire selection. So they rely on the umpires to self police. Which they essentially refuse to do.

Nice that he’s finding his stroke but this team could have 9 Henry Aarons and still be consistently outscored

But that slapdick sued MLB and they still keep him around. No ump is going to speak against him else they be in the same boat.

Dubon with an RBI single

Great question!!

In my profession there is an “artistic director” (the dude that waves the baton) and his opinion is what protects us from that happening.

Again, it’s not a perfect system. But with personal dynamics and butthurt feelings between individuals that are performing under incredible stress… we as musicians can’t really be trusted. Removal proceedings start with the Artistic Director (whom you can talk to and express you opinions) and then goes to the union.

It’s a multi step process BUT it needs to be. I’ll explain why in a sec (I’m typing blind on my phone)

Jake with a 2-run double!

Actually, nervermind.

Pretty sure I’m talking to myself at this point.

Unions are good. Also, unions suck.

We’re not talking about butthurt feelings, we’re talking about someone who refuses to play the tune. If the orchestra is supposed to play Moonlight Sonata and the violinist insists on playing Flight of the Bumblebee every fucking song, you just say “this is overall good for our professsion”?

Wow! Do you have any articles on this? That would be a bonkers collective bargaining agreement

End of seven…it’s now 12-8

You’re taking about insubordination. Very different.

It’s probably out there somewhere, but the umpires union ain’t really that strong.

No, he’s just really bad at playing the violin. He thinks he’s playing Moonlight Sonata.

That’s dementia.

That’s Angel Hernandez

Pressly in now, BTW
