He didn’t contribute to any of them.

Thanks!

This is pretty great…

He’s had talent over the years. I used to think he was just unlucky a few times, but the more I’ve watched him manage, the more I’m convinced that the reason he hasn’t won a WS is because he’s fucked it up.

You can do everything right and not win a WS.

But you can’t do many things wrong and win one.

When he was with the Cubs, nobody here had anything good to say about him, particularly his management of pitchers. There was a good deal of sentiment when he got here that he managed the players through the backlash better than different managers would have, and I suspect that’s true. He’s still not very good with pitchers, though his batting order seems to be working better than most of us thought it would.

My best friend Dan (RIP) was a lifelong Giants fan. Mention Dusty’s giving the ball to his starter when removing him with a lead in the 7th in the WS, and he would become apoplectic.

I can handle the rest of Dusty’s moves, but pitching moves should all be dictated by Strom. All of them.

I get why they hired Dusty. He’s a good guy, well liked personally throughout baseball, he’s pretty much seen it all, and he’s got a pretty level head when it comes to dealing with players and conflict. He’s just not a good in-game baseball strategist. He gets outmanaged, and that’s simply not something that can be tolerated with a team that is this good with this much potential. Perhaps if this were a young team, rebuilding, guys trying to find their way, Dusty’s steady hand and fatherly advice can help get them going. But he’s not the guy for a team this talented and experienced.

I am not a fan of his ever-changing batting orders, but that may be nothing more than my personal preference of putting guys in the slots I thought their abilities suited and sticking with that order.

As Mark can no doubt tell you, the Mac batting order did not change. He knew before too many games he hit 7th behind Facundo and in front of Carmona.

Well said, HH.

I would add that this team’s major weakness, the pen, begs for a deft hand in its management.

That has never been one of his strengths.
