Race for the lid.... this season!

I was gently reminded that this used to be a revered tradition in these hallowed halls, and that I had volunteered to take up the mantle.

So, tomorrow at 10:00 am. Budgirl makes the rules.

We ready

You should do something concurrent like the Race for the RBI, to give those of us who forget or can’t get in at the get-go (and end up picking 113 wins) a chance for a meaningless consolation prize.

‘Twas great Elise joined us Zooming on OD.

RACE FOR THE LID XXIII
Contest Rules:

  1. Bench is the judge and jury of the winner.

  1. A Pick is determined by the number of wins starting April 9, 2021.

  1. All picks are in this thread. 86 cannot be a pick.

  1. One pick per person. If multiple picks, Bench determines which poster get the pick.

  1. The grand prize, of course, is an Astros cap of Bench’s choosing from Astros.com. Bench is allowed to make rulings on prize disputes that may arise… namely; he gets to tell you to go to hell if you whine that you should get the prize!

  1. NO PICKS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT TIME.
    OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT TIME:
    BEGINS : April 9, 2021 at 10:00
    CLOSES: When determined by Bench.

  1. Verification of picks is determined by Bench. If he needs help, he will request it.

  1. If there is no correct pick Bench will find a winner by a method of his choosing.

  1. The previous year’s winner is not eligible to pick, if that is what Bench determines…

  1. Here’s the list of past winners:

2020 – no winner
2019 – spleen
2018 – not recorded
2017 – Duman
2016 - WVastro
2015 – Fredia
2014 – HudsonHawk
2013 – Fynn
2012 – Ebby Calvin
2011 – no winner
2010 – Lurch
2009 - Ron Brand
2008 – EasTexAstro
2007 - no winner
2006 - Fredia
2005 - Drew Corleone
2004 - Andyzipp
2003 - Jim R
2002 - no winner
2001 - Neil T.
2000 - no winner
1999 - Astrobabe

Good Luck and may be the best fan win!

I think the spleen won in 2019. There was no winner in 2020 because of the sub .500 finish to the “season” notwithstanding the heroic postseason run. I have no memories from 2018.

thanks, updated

So 162 games, 7 have been played, that leaves 137, no, wait, 161, that can’t be right, 155? I’m going with l62 less 7 equals 155. Is that right? But 86 isn’t half of 155? Shouldn’t it be 77 instead of 82? WHAT THE HELL AM I TALKING ABOUT? THIS IS WORSE THAN ALGEBRA!
