Race for the Lid 2026 -- Better Late Than Never

Spring has sprung (heck, it’s practically summer with some of these temperatures we’ve already seen)… And the season has begun (yeah, I’m late on this, my bad – not used to this winning thing). So, it’s time for OWA’s much beloved, never-any-controversy-to-it Race for the Lid.

As lid-bearer, it’s my sacred honor and duty to handle scorekeeping duties this year (and I’ve already messed up the timing – a wonderful start). Thanks to Moriarty for handling things last year, and for sending me (really, my teenage son) this cap (that he’s wearing right now, as we watch Opening Day together).

Last year, 87 wins was the magic number. How many will it take this time? That’s the question of the day. This… is the Race for the Lid.

These are the rules. Read them. Heed them.

  1. I, BUwebguy, am the official scorekeeper.
  2. Pick the total number of Astros wins, starting Opening Day 2026 (yes, you get a freebie, because I’m late), through the end of the regular season.
  3. All picks are to be made in this thread. Picks made elsewhere will be disregarded.
  4. One number per poster. One poster per number.
  5. First prize is a cap of my choosing (with the winner’s input) from the Astros store. Second place gets… nothing. Third place means you get nothing. You lose. Good day, sir.
  6. NO PICKS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT TIME of 8 a.m. CT on FRIDAY, MARCH 27. All picks must be in by 7:15 p.m. CT the same day.
  7. If there is no correct pick, I will put the entrants’ names in a hat and draw a winner at random.
  8. I, scorekeeper, will make no pick.
