Each spring, bright-shining Apollo graces one OWA poster with the gift of prophecy. Each fall, the board bestows upon said poster a totem of that power: The Lid.
And it’s about that time again. As lid-bearer, I’ll take over scorekeeping duties this year. Thanks very much to Ty for running the show last year and for sending me this fantastically celebratory black and gold snapback.
It’s a new-look Astros team for 2025. A new 1B, a new 3B, a new position for a future HOFer, a new top prospect, new City Connect unis, and a new ballpark name to top it all off. But as we embrace the new, we hope some old traditions endure—specifically, that the eight-year tradition of making the postseason will continue at least to a ninth.
Last year 88 wins was enough. How many will it take this time? Well, that’s why we’re here—to guess how many it’ll take, or how many they’ll tally in the trying. This, friends, is the Race for the Lid.
These are the rules. Read them. Heed them.
- I, moriarty, am the official scorekeeper.
- Pick the total number of Astros wins, starting Opening Day 2025, through the end of the regular season.
- All picks are to be made in this thread. Picks made elsewhere will be disregarded.
- One number per poster. One poster per number.
- First prize is a cap of my choosing (with the winner’s input) from the Astros store. Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you’re fired.
- Just kidding. There’s no second or third prize.
- NO PICKS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT TIME of 10 a.m. Central on TUESDAY, MARCH 25.
- No picks will be accepted after the Astros’ first pitch on Opening Day. Late picks will be disregarded (unless, for whatever reason, I choose to regard them).
- If there is no correct pick, I will put the entrants’ names in my glorious 2024 lid and draw a winner at random.
- I, scorekeeper, will make no pick.
