If Machete isn’t hurt, this move is near impossible to defend. I expect to find out later what the reasoning was.

The Diaz move makes sense with Yarbrough on the mound. However, Dustin Garneau at the expense of Martin Maldonado is crazy. I fail to see the logic, both offensively and defensively.

2020 Astros with Maldonado starting: 23-23
2020 Astros with Garneau starting: 6-7

So, not the wild swing I think we all assumed it was.

The no days off thing is hell on the pitching staff and on your starting catcher. Machete has been rid hard.

Exactly. If we are gonna win this series then it’s going at least 6 days. You lose today and tomorrow becomes an elimination game, you aren’t starting Garneau in an elimination game and you don’t want Machete to catch 7 games in 7 days. Today had to be the day off. Win games 1 or 2 then maybe game 4 is the day off but that’s not where we’re at.

Dusty said he earmarked this scenario before the series started. And told Machete to be ready to play in the middle part of the game (read: pinch hit for DG if there are runners on).
