On a personal note…my great, great grandfather was a Confederate soldier who fought at Gettysburg, as part of the ill-fated Pickett’s Charge. He was wounded, and captured, and spent the rest of the war as a Union POW at Ft. Delaware. After the war he had to walk back to Florida.
I recommend this place as well. You can take the Duquesne Incline up the hill, which is extremely cool in its own right.
What was Pickett really like?

- the Incline is pretty cool, and as noted above, there several good restaurants at the top of the hill.
- if you’re into local history, there’s the Heinz History Center, or you can do a bus tour like this one: https://www.pghtours.com
Philadelphia:
- Reading Terminal Market is a must for food
- The locals say skip Pat’s and Geno’s, and head to Tony Luke’s for cheesesteaks
- Hard to go to Philly and not do the Old City District and Liberty Bell
