Padres @ Astros, May 29, 2021

Serviceable but not a strength, in a rotation minus Verlander, with only LMJ and Grienke having been full time starters for an entire season. And in an era where rolling out 4 relievers a game isn’t unusual.

Now, you can’t just crap out a top notch reliever much less a full bullpen. And the limitations cited above are well noted. I suspect decreased revenue from last season squelched any chance they’d sniff the tax threshold.

ETA I overlooked Odorizzi in my list above

Catch a pop up.

I doubt Taylor has made such a gaffe at any level since he could shave.

One of those games in a week full of those games.

He made at least one error at RR playing third base this month that was pretty ugly as well. I remarked to my buddy that I was concerned about him at first base yesterday because of his defense and then he made that spectacular diving stop. Followed thereafter by…

Very true but even if that game ends with Jones squeezing that pop up into his glove and the Astros victorious, I would still have the same question for Baker considering Strom’s comments earlier about Raley’s usage. I felt like a five run lead was a good spot to bring in a rookie pitcher making his first appearance considering he was well rested and needed work.

He might not be, but, as you said, this is his mess, and he deserves the opportunity to try and fix it.

Well, if you mean Garza in the 8th instead of Smith, I won’t argue. I get using Raley against the left handers. Though no lead was safe, apparently.

Yeah that too. I understood the rationale for going to Raley with those bats due up in the 6th but thought it was interesting considering Strom’s earlier comments. I thought Garza in the 7th over Scrubb was a good intro spot with the bases clean. Don’t mean squat now regardless.
