Padres @ Astros, May 29, 2021

yeah, that won’t win many

These numbers can justify my getting blacked out tonight…

The fact that he was carrying on about a reliever is the height of irony.

Releasing Cishek is the story of the off-season in a nutshell.

Saturday may serve as a tipping point, the sort of abject disaster that forces urgent action instead of mindless hope. The Astros built a five-run lead against the San Diego Padres after seven innings. Their lineup lit up an ace, even absent three of its most valuable hitters. Starter Jake Odorizzi offered an excellent start against one of the sport’s most disciplined lineups. He departed with a 5-0 lead. The Astros needed 11 outs from their bullpen to finish the job. Humiliation followed.

Question: What bullpen could cover almost five innings for four games for very long w/o breaking down?

How about 4 innings per game during the last ten games?

According to my calculations, they have been averaging just over four innings per game during the 10 games since the wonderful 6-1 home stand ending 16 May. Four extra inning games are included in that stretch.

The numbers are worse for ANY Astros starter but Grienke, who has averaged 7 innings in the two games he pitched since 14 May.

Are our guys are getting hurt with the over work? Is it a starter problem more than a BP problem?

No. It’s a bullpen problem. They are simply awful.

Agree. It is a bullpen problem that is exacerbated by the fact that our starters can’t go deep into games.

That reliever. What us he doing these days?

Recovering from TJS.

No he’s playing in the Mexican League

Prior to yesterday’s game Garza hadn’t pitched since May 20th. I realize the bullpen overall is a warm pile of skunk shit right now, but I do not understand Baker’s refusal to use Garza earlier in the game. He could’ve brought him in to start the 7th to pitch to Myers/Profar/Kim with a five-run lead instead of introducing him to ML hitters in the 12th inning of a game with that ghost runner on second and Tatis due up.

Terrible bullpen management by Baker.

My memory is a accurate as our bullpen (from his wikipedia page):

On August 4, 2020, it was announced that Osuna was recommended to need Tommy John surgery.[52] However, Osuna opted not to have the surgery and take the rest-and-rehab route instead.[53] On October 29, 2020, Osuna was placed on outright waivers by the Astros and became a free agent.[54]

On March 12, 2021, Osuna held a showcase for interested teams in the Dominican Republic.[55]

Diablos Rojos del México (second stint)Edit

On May 11, 2021, Osuna signed with the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League.[56]

I only knew that because I wondered likewise about him earlier this week and wasn’t sure if he ever went under the knife.

This is Click’s BP. Maybe he isn’t the guy to do it?

Click definitely deserves some scrutiny.

This team isn’t going to make the playoffs.

And the farm doesn’t strike me as being very fertile. If someone knows/thinks better I would love to be corrected.

To Click’s somewhat credit, on paper this bullpen looked serviceable.

Hard to predict that the entire bullpen minus Pressly was going to dissolve like cotton candy sprayed by a water hose less than 1/3 of the way through.

Well, we got what we wanted…Pressly on the mound with a chance to close it out…with two outs in the 9th…and a 3-run lead. This one isn’t all on Baker’s bullpen usage.
