God help you if you want anything resembling an avocado.

Oh, I see why Underbelly closed. They had a place out front where you could park a bike. They went woke.

Thanks. Among the many bizarre things about today was that we made multiple subs and none of them weakened the team. The squad may be more robust than feared, and we still have Cheikh Decouré and Chadi Riad to come back (the former being a former Palace Player of the Year).

Cardines coming on for Muñoz was the cherry on the icing on the cake.

At least that goddam Radio Shack finally closed. I hate Radio Shack. If my Half Price Books has to close then your Radio Shack has to close and that’s all there is to it.

The same way there are Kentaco Huts, there should be a throw back combo store called “Half Price Radiobuster”

And cardines almost scored…they never looked like they were the side a man down.

I loved that store.

Montrose/Alabama Half Price I assume?

Pundits have been flagging Palace as one of the favorites to win the Conference. My lifetime of Palace fandom has refused to let me accept that as a thing. Now I am having an existential crisis.

I mean, we are 3rd in the EPL, unbeaten in 19 (:exploding_head:) which now spans 5 competitions and includes 3 games vs. reigning champs Liverpool, and last season’s Europa League final - one step up from the Conference - was contested by two English teams who flirted with relegation. So why not us?

Our squad looks good and we have a chance to expand it in January because we may well be in the thick of four separate competitions: EPL, UECL, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Then there’s this:

The one on Westheimer between Montrose and Yoakum. There are locations I always preferred for various reasons, but that one was the closest. Oh, I can’t forget the one on University at Kirby in the Village. Also closed, of course. Hopefully they’ll put an El Tiempo in there.

Last time I went to a Half Price Books I drove Westheimer seemingly halfway to Katy.

The one out there by Dairy Ashford or whatever that god forsaken road is is a better location than the ones in town for whatever reason. When I make pilgrimages to Phoenicia I never miss it.

There are a ton of Half Price Books around here. I better get off my ass and visit some of them before they get turned into Torchys Tacos.

Right…got it confused with the West Alabama Bookstop, It’s been awhile. Used to live a few blocks from there off Yoakum and that was my go-to book store.

I grew up out there. Good to know that Phoenicia is still there. When I’d venture back to the Westside to visit the parents that was always a place we’d go.

I’ve had good fajitas at El Tiempo in the long-ago days, but I’ll never understand the love for Torchy’s, going back to their original trailer in Austin.

The Bookstop has been gone so long I didn’t even visualize it when you mentioned Alabama. It’s now a Trader Joe’s or some other stupid shit.

I’ve never been to Torchy’s. I ate at El Tiempo once. I won’t even enter one anymore I find them so utterly offensive in every possible way.

El Tiempo originally was the secret reboot of Mama Ninfas after that sold out to a chain. Somehow it morphed from those credible origins into “Expensive Chipotle”. It’s all style over substance.

Phoenicia has a downtown location, too, which has a much more limited selection (because it’s a lot smaller), but it has all the essentials AND it has a very respectable bar. Brandy and I had some beers at that bar in a past life.

The MKT bar is a great spot if you talked yourself into seeing a show at the House of Blues.

True. Sadly, sometimes HOB is unavoidable. I’ve seen the Cafe Tacuba Boys Band in there any number of times, and the last time I was there was to see Julieta Venegas, which was an outSTANding performance. Like I said, unavoidable.

Haven’t been to an El Tiempo in 20 years, but for the few years after they opened they were quite solid. At least fajita-wise. If a TexMex restaurant can screw up any of: chips/salsa/queso/tortillas/fajitas that’s a restaurant I’ll never go back to

I also remember the Ninfas on Richmond/Kirby? had a free happy hour buffet. You could spend $6+tip on 3 beers and eat all of the chips/dips/ground beef tacos/fixins you wanted. When I’d visit my Rice/St Thomas buddies from HS that was a very popular place for poor college kids.
