My problem with Lance as a reliever is his inability/reluctance/unwillingness to throw strikes. You just can’t have that in late innings.

Yes, he could definitely be valuable there. Starter gets hurt of just doesn’t have it in early innings, being able to bring in somebody with starter mojo is a major plus. But he still has to throw strikes, or at least pitches that might be strikes. He throws so many pitches are just flat-out bad that he’s always pitching in high-stress situations.
