Bullpen was fucking hot garbage.
Just one more piece of the puzzle to not making the playoffs and not having Dusty Baker’s idiotic ass calling the shots.
It’s not all negative.
When was the last time this team won a close game?
When was the last time any player on this team delivered in a clutch situation in a close game?
The hitters did tonight. The pitchers did not.
Uh. Abreu hit a homer to regain the lead about 45 minutes ago.
Pressly has pitched four innings in September and given up seven runs.
Abreu should be closing.
Abreu and Maldonado had big home runs. The offense put up a four spot in the sixth. Ryan Pressly sucking and Dusty Baker inexplicably using Rafael Montero in the 7th inning with the Orioles top of the order up and a 5-3 lead were killers tonight.
Misery.
Pressly blew the no hitter last time out and blew the game tonight. He blew a similar multi run 9th inning lead a few weeks ago in Detroit. That’s two losses in the last two weeks that are directly on him.
I wonder if Espada, the heir apparent, will also be a casualty…
They’ll find a way to lose. Just any and every which way, no matter the particular situation, they’re honed in on losing.
The other teams collapsing too just prolongs the misery.
In three innings, the bullpen gave up five runs on eight hits.
Why not PH Brantley for Chas in the 9th? Had Brantley been used already?
Was Dusty saying “Screw you. You wanted Chas; here he is.”
The Dusty Baker coaching experience this year:
It’s like a toddler that picks up an onion. You say, “Don’t eat that, you won’t like it!” and they take a bite and hate it, but instead of just admitting they’re wrong they keep on taking bites just to show you that they’re right and you’re wrong.
I kept saying in 2022 that I wasn’t sure that Dusty Baker was capable of coaching all the way to winning a World Series, and I thought (happily) I was proven wrong. This season is convincing me more than anything else that someone else was pulling the strings in the playoffs.
He is just fucking awful. I’d rather have fucking Dave Roberts as the bench boss presently.
No question this hurts, but not a shabby opponent:
(link) One in 46 when trailing after the 8th, the O’s have now won back to back games while trailing into the 9th & just won the 48th game in which they have trailed… [3:31:30]
Baker apparently said in his postgame press conference that Bryan Abreu was unavailable after being hit by a line drive in Kansas City (X-rays were negative). Still doesn’t make me feel better about using Montero with a 5-3 lead and Henderson, Rutschman and O’Hearn up in the seventh inning.
As for Pressly, in his postgame comments, he felt like he executed his pitch to Mullins, and most hitters don’t do much with it. After seeing a replay of the home run, I beg to differ. A down-and-in breaking ball to a left-handed hitter is not good location.
Brantley was still available on the bench.
I wouldn’t put anything past Crane if the Astros miss the playoffs.
I definitely am not arguing with your comment, but maybe it was more pitch selection than location? I was thinking if I was throwing a curve to a LH hitter, not only do I want it down and in, but also that spot is much easier to hit than trying to hit the outside corner. I did not see the HR and do not know what the count was. Should he have been trying to bounce it? Would an outside FB have been a better choice?
