NFL Playoffs 2023

With the Phillies losing the World Series and the Eagles losing the Super Bowl, I would look forward to the Sixers losing the finals, but that would involve Harden making the finals and we all know that won’t happen.

It is a penalty no matter when it occurs. There are few things I despise more than “you cannot call a penalty in that situation.” Bullshit.

Then there should be a penalty on every single snap of the ball.

If a ref sees it, I agree. The last two minutes of a close game is not an “anything goes” period.

The guy who did it admitted it was a good call, and you are still maintaining it should not have been called because of the situation? Bullshit. I despise that mindset.

I didn’t say it should be anything goes, don’t put words in my mouth. I said it was a ticky tack call that almost never gets called, and for good reason. No one wants a penalty on every single play.

The guy who did it said it was a good call. You are never wrong so he must be.

Eagles cornerback James Bradberry admitted to holding Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on a critical third-down play in Kansas City’s game-winning drive in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

Bradberry spoke to reporters after Super Bowl LVII and said, “It was a holding. I tugged his jersey. I was hoping they would let it slide.”

FWIW, that quote implies that the refs are inconsistent and they let stuff go at times and other times they don’t. I despise the capricious nature of selective penalty calling.

ETA: “It was a holding. I tugged his jersey. I was hoping they would let it slide.”

I’m not saying I enjoy capricious penalty calling, but this is like ending the World Series by calling a balk on a move that you rarely call, and frankly haven’t called one on far more obvious moves this game. Or bottom of the 9th of Game 7, a hitter mumbles about your strike one call, and you immediately toss him from the game. You give the players a lot of benefit all year, but then to decide the World Series you break out a protractor. If you’re gonna do that, then yeah, I’d rather see five penalties on every play.

Don’t recall seeing this angle much on the broadcast:

They mostly replayed the angle from behind, which just looked like Bradberry had his hand on Smith-Schuster’s back.

Yeah, he tugged the jersey a bit behind the line of scrimmage. No one has argued that he didn’t.

And he did it at he moment the receiver changed direction.

That’s an actual advantage to the defender, as opposed to the balk scenario.

Exactly. Besides grabbing the jersey, he used an arm to impede the WR’s getting upfield. Clear defensive holding, and the game situation should make zero difference to a good official.

I admire the Philly DB for being honest about what he did.

Not stepping directly towards 1B on a throw is an advantage to the pitcher.

I get it, you liked the call. I didn’t. I hate deciding the Super Bowl on a call you wouldn’t make any other time far more than the capricious nature of not calling every penalty you technically could.

The super bowl was decided by a team that led by 10 points at halftime giving up 24 points in the second half.

That team also gave up a scoop and score and a 65 yard punt return (that one in crunch time).

If you ignore the last two minutes. By that logic, it was decided by the coin flip.

Again…I get that you liked the call. I didn’t. I get that the Eagles had chances. But to suggest that wasn’t a critical call is just bizarre to me.

“By that logic”

You mean the logic of playing the entire game and keeping track of the score along the way?

That call is made far more often than you imply. It’s hardly akin to a balk.

So you don’t believe in game changing plays? No game ever “TURNED UPSIDE DOWN”?

The NFL sure is happy for that call distracting from the small town middle school quality field.

That did look pretty bad. Maybe the Sodfather hung on too long.
