My favorite team in the NBA has been the Celtics since I was a kid in the ‘50s. When our TV was new, I think all that was on Sundays was Oral Roberts in his faith-healer heyday and the Celtics with their parquet floor. I fell in love with the Cousy-led Celtics, and my rooting for them never waned. My fandom was rewarded by the Bird-led Celtics. Maybe I am alone in this opinion, but I think the 1986 Celtics team was Boston’s greatest team. I do not watch even one bounce of the NBA any more, but I still root for the Boston Celtics.
It’s a widely held opinion that the '86 Celtics are the greatest team of all time, period.
They had to beat the best to be the best.
