Damn! My Dragon just took a shit, too. Tough times for vintage audio.
None of us are getting any younger. My Mac is 52 years old. I donāt know how old that is in people or dog years.
So, I have an opportunity to buy a McIntosh MX110. No idea if it still works. But, itās interesting to meā¦
Am I embarking down a rabbit hole Iāll regret?
Depends on what it will cost you. That one looks in rough shape, but itās hard to tell. Getting it completely refurbished to new working order and a new faceplate would probably run you $1,200-$1,500. Itād then be worth about $2,500. But it would sound sweet as honey. And yes, tube gear is a deep, deep rabbit hole. Youād probably want a tube amplifier to power it. You probably wonāt regret it. Mrs das might, but you can always argue she got the chickens she wanted.
Oh, ok. I thought you were talking about a rare Cuban cigar.
That is 100% what I thought until his next post.
Thats the one I fried. I wish it was only a Cuban cigar. It may cost me $600.
Is the USB port in the back?
One of the several cool feature of your integrated amp is it has a ātape headā input. Just like phonos need a preamp to boost and EQ the signal from a cartridge, tape heads need a similar preamp. Most decks have the preamp onboard. However, in the early days of tape, some higher end amps had a tape head preamp included. You just need the tape transport and hook the output directly from the tape head into that input on the amp.
I have a very old receiver with that feature, but havenāt found a transport to put with it.
Haha, same.
Yeah, Iāve never used that. Iāve also never used several of the different output modes. One is āStereo Reverseā, which sends the right input channel to the left output and the left input to the right output. Iāve never found a reason to want to do that, but itās a feature, so I guess there is some esoteric reason for wanting to.
It has two phono inputs, two tuner inputs, three tape deck inputs, and one catch-all auxiliary input. Itās already got everything a feller could ever need
Does the RIAA know you have tape copy functionality on that thing? Hope you donāt get that knock on your doorā¦
Because I have to post this every time this stuff comes up, and we talked about NTNON in the cat shit thread or some otherā¦
I reckon you could always get a USB to 1/4 inch adapter. Stick in one a them tape inputs.
Can you get in Dobly?
My Sansui 8080DB has Dolby NR and it sucks donkey balls. It also unnecessarily complicates the circuitry making repairs when one of those stupid fucking capacitors inevitably goes out for no reason whatsoever a pain in the ass.
Why? it has built-in Bluetooth.
Big breaking news about Tay-Tay.
Is it just me, or when it comes to Taylor Swift does Travis Kelce really give off serious Lennie from Of Mice and Men vibes?
