Music, 2022

I upgraded cartridges last year, and thought about the Grado Timbre Opus. I decided to go with Ortofon 2M Blue though. Much lower on the scale than the Master, but my turntable ain’t a VPI. When I get a higher end turntable, I’ll go with a better cartridge.

I’m a huge fan of all things Grado sound wise, but some of their practical aspects leave me with a “really…that’s how you decided to go on that?”

That’s spot on. It’s a tiny, family run factory in Brooklyn. I’m sure a lot of things are done because “that’s the way Uncle John did it”.

I understand that Chuck is in Vegas because his lounge act has taken off, and he can be found Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the Sands.

Desert Inn, tough guy, we don’t work them rinky dink joints anymore.

So hip he made Buddy Love look like a nutty professor, and so mean he made Don Rickles cry.

Just a random observation…

When I lived in North Carolina I became a huge fan of Doc Watson and the flatpickers of that style. I’ve now become a huge fan of Billy Strings. Which reminds me that we often pick the wrong people to make famous.

For the Sake of Bethel Woods by Midlake is a great great album. Very smooth, kind of reminds me of 2013’s Limerance by the Reflections, which is another superb album. Shame the Reflections never made another one.

New Midlake? Excellent. Will check it out pronto. Haven’t heard from them in a long time.

I don’t usually promote my music endeavors because I’m very well aware that it’s music that most people aren’t into but my band 18Fevers just released a new single and video I’m particularly proud of.

That’s me singing. Just kidding, I’m the foreigner on bass.

That was pretty good, Matt. I like your Rickenbacker bass! Also liked the way y’all ended the song with a slow breakdown.

I like the bass riff at the beginning of the song, even more than the 3-chord guitar foundation. I’ve found myself humming it all morning since I listened to the song. Did you have a hand in writing the music as well?

Post punk, huh? For some reason I always thought Matt was in a seoul band.

Good stuff! Spearheading the K-Punk revolution.

Yeah I wrote the music and lyrics, my singer made the lyrics better. Of course the lead guitar parts were done by our lead guitarist who is a mad scientist when it comes to guitar.

Once you go Rickenbacker no other bass will do. It’s just a fine piece of workmanship and the sound is immaculate.
