Minor League Team Contraction, Good Idea? Houston the Source?

My local team, Boise Hawks, was a casualty

They are continuing in the Pioneer League, which will be a partnered independent league for players with less than 4 yrs professional experience.

The stadium is very old and outdated which was main reason.

SA back to AA? Good for me as I might see the Hooks there more often. Do you know who dropped out of the Texas League?

No one. As I wrote previously, they’re expanding the league by two by adding SA and Wichita.

Thanks. Reading thoroughly is hard.

Ah, the OWA credo.

It could - it’s how I became an Astros fan in 1994. It would if teams would commit long-term to a town and invest in building a fan base, instead of shuffling every few years.

Ashville’s McCormick field has some very interesting dimensions.

FYI - It is also the park you see Crash Davis playing his last game at in Bull Durham. So all of you have actually seen the park before.

Particularly excellent craft beer selection, too, for single A.

Asheville is a great town.

Cut loose by the contraction, the Tri-City ValleyCats will join the indy Frontier League.

The V-Cats were a farm team of the Astros from 2002-2019, an 18-year run which is the 2nd longest stint for any minor league affiliate in the history of the Houston franchise (not counting complex league teams). Only the Columbus Mudcats (originally Columbus Astros) at 21 years had a longer affiliation with the Astros. The Mudcats were a AA affiliate for Houston from 1970-1990.

And here is lawsuit #2 and this one involves the Astros…

The article notes that the same 2 law firms handling the SI Yankees lawsuit are also handling this one.

Wonder if they are building towards a class action suit?

So the contraction/reorganization of the minors cost Inky a job but also gained him a job and the Astros were on both ends of it. The former Astro lost his job as manager of the Skeeters as a result of Sugar Land becoming Houston’s AAA club. But with Tri-City losing its affiliation with the Astros, a managerial vacancy opened up there as the V-Cats become an indy team.

I was living in OKC when Pete was at OK State. They had a great team (and a great coach in Gary Ward). Inky is my all time favorite college player.

A terrific new name for former Appy League member Burlington as it transitions to the college wood bat league. It’s partially a nod to the region’s textile industry history as the former “hosiery capital of the south”.
