Another win for my TV’s off button.
Nice interview with Bielak after the game. He was making breakfast for himself and teammates in Corpus this morning when the pitching coordinator called and told him to back his bags, he was going to Houston. Twelve hours later he picks up his first big league win. How cool a feeling must that be. I doubt he’ll sleep much tonight.
James is really perplexing. I guess he would not be the first pitcher with a great arm who could not throw strikes consistently.
I watched most of the innings he pitched and there were multiple pitches that were in the zone that were not called strikes. Several of those went for ball one and then walks.
In other news there were several curves thrown by Graveman that were called strikes and were 3-4 inches out of the zone. I was waiting on Springer to get thrown out after one of them. Just about each of those bad calls led to a backwards K.
Looks like Astros pitchers and hitters suffering from umpires trying to ‘police the game’.
I do not know why the umpires would give a shit. They must have heard the trash can if the hitters could. Why didn’t the umpires stop it if it was so bad?
Morales called several pitches for both teams well outside of the zone.
He was squeezing James for sure, but I think he’s just an ump with no grasp of the strike zone moreso than punishing the Astros.

Always assume incompetence before malevolence.
…except where it’s often both. Lookin’ at you, White House!
