Astros Future is reporting the signing of Sami Manzueta, 16 year old infielder, for $850,000.
Kevin Alvarez, the $2M 17-year-old outfielder from Cuba who signed back in January, is hitting .342/.422/.534 over his first 22 games down in the Dominican Summer League. He drew some Kyle Tucker comparisons when he signed and is doing his best to live up to them so far. Baseball America just ranked him 6th in the system in their July update with a note that he could establish himself as the team’s best prospect by the end of the season.
That article says Alvarez signed for $2M. It later says Pedro Leon signed for $4M back in 2021.
Francys Romero reporting that the Astros are going to sign 17 year Cuban outfielder Jack Valbrune:
Athletic and already projectsble for a lot of power. Deal is set to be finalized in September.
ETA - Romero also reporting the Astros signed Venezuelan INF Sami Manzueta to $850K:

One month later: Alvarez is hitting .307/.430/.449 with just 15 strikeouts to 22 walks over 158 PA.
An Astros YouTuber interviewed Alvarez several months back before the season started. I haven’t listed to it yet (and don’t speak Spanish, so I’ll be trusting the YouTube auto-translate feature), but I’ll give it a shot when I have some spare time. Very exciting prospect who we may be hearing a lot more about in the future.
