Encouraging signs from the early vote.
Anecdotally, I drove past my local early voting station yesterday at around 1pm, and there was a line out the door.
Chief Justice Roberts blocks the transfer of Trump’s tax records from one branch of government to another. It’s just an administrative stay pending official adjudication, which is not unusual, but it’s worth noting that SCOTUS didn’t bother to do this for Texas’ abortion bounty law.
If you, like me, have voted early, you will have seen the new system that provides a paper trail for the ballots. You are given two sheets of legal paper to feed into the machine on which it prints your votes; you then take these to a scanner to have it record the ballot, and you have a chance to check that nothing has been misrecorded in between.
It’s not exactly a slick system, but the paper trail is extremely important. Meanwhile, in Nevada, one county is trying to go old school and hand count the ballots. It’s not going well.
Apparently, 60 trained vote counters managed to count just 900 ballots in 8 hours, and the count was riddled with discrepancies. In a county of 33,000 registered voters, this process would render the result…probably never.
