There is something big coming. Trump always melts down when he knows that something is about to get out into the public domain, and this seems like the mother of all meltdowns.
This is a story that should be front page of every news. Almost every American should get a good taste of what real abuse of power is, and realize that it’s rarely ever aimed at the rich, powerful and crooked, but instead at the powerless.

This could be what Trump is freaking out over.
His request for a special master has opened the door for the DOJ to “speak through its filings”, as Garland stated. The DOJ’s filing will include factual statements rebutting Trump’s assertions - presumably #1 being that he “cooperated fully”. 40 pages is a lot of space so Trump is about to get thoroughly pantsed and possibly hit with damning new information.

Oh, look! Unclassified information that the FBI dumped out on the ground to take a picture of to try to make President Trump look bad.
To be fair, I don’t know whether that’s how they found it, or if they pulled the documents out of the box for the photo. Regardless, him simply having that stuff is jail time - even if he’d magically declassified it, he’s not allowed to have it.
Deniability is gone for him, too. They found over 100 classified documents, including some is his office and some in his desk.
But, of course, that carpet is the real crime here.
Obstruction is important on two fronts: (1) it proves intent, (b) it ramps up the jail time considerably and (iii) it embroils Attys Bobb and Corcoran who wrote/signed the assurance that all had been returned previously.
Bobb and Corcoran are now in big trouble and likely to flip. They will also have to leave Trump’s legal team due to the conflict, and they were already barrel scrapings of the legal profession.

Trump took PLAINLY MARKED classified records to MAL, he delayed, obstructed and resisted Government efforts to recover them, he (or his staff) concealed the records from investigators, and they got caught doing so.
Bobb and Corcoran are fucked (and so is Trump).
As an Englishman who now lives in the South, I am doubly-appreciative of the calm, understated “GFY” energy of the DOJ’s filing.
Remember Trump wigging out over the FBI taking his three (!) passports? They gave them back, but the reason they took them was because they were part of the contents of a desk drawer that included classified documents!
Why would someone keep classified documents next to their passport(s)?
How the hell does one get 3 passports?
