It’s also insane that he thinks he can be president. Fortunately for the country, most other places aren’t as fucking idiotic as Nexas.
Abbott is in his press conference still laying it all at the feet of ERCOT, saying that it’s all their fault cause they issued a notice to all the plants a few days prior to this that the plants needed to be properly weatherized, and the plants didn’t meet that, so it’s ERCOT’s fault. Seriously, like issuing a notice would have got the plants weatherized in two days.
He then went on to say that besides adding an emergency item to the leg session addressing ERCOT’s failures, he is adding two more emergency items to the session. One will mandate that energy generators are weatherized and two, finding the money to pay for it. I wonder if this creep even notices the inconsistency: if ERCOT could actually compel a generator to weatherize, why is a law needed? Also, how this is all paid for should be interesting.
Or Latin America.
None of what Abbott says matters because ERCOT, and assholes like Rick Perry, are spinning this as a win. The system worked!!
After Trump, I don’t think it’s insane if a tilted highway exit sign thinks it can be president.
Also, it’s likely Cruz is running for senate when he runs for president. He’s running for book contracts and a gig at Fox or whatever worse thing eats Fox. He’s evil, not dumb.
ETA: I should’ve said “be elected” president, not “be” president, since Trump sort of did one and never exhibited any interest in the other.
Speaking of Ted Cruz and books, here is a thread on the politician book scam, in this case by Ted Cruz, but he most certainly isn’t the only one doing this.
Joel Olsteen has been doing this for years. That’s why his books always hit the NYT best seller list. It would seem like a victimless crime but, in Olsteen’s case, he’s doing it with tax free money, which is why I struggle not to lose it when people say “he makes his money from his books”.
Of course Donald Trump Jr is also a bestselling author.
It’s pretty entertaining to note that these lowlifes have elected to share their message via the one medium those receptive to their views emphatically do not use.
You’re missing the point of the books. It’s not about having them read, it’s about converting donations into free-and-clear cash. Olsteen or Trumpx, it’s the same game.
To all my Texas friends, be safe and smart.
I’m sorry I was too preoccupied to say it sooner. I haven’t been paying attention and I’m sorry.
I hope you get back to normal weather soon and recovery is quick cheap and pain free. ( or as much as can be expected)
You are all in my prayers
I’m in Idaho and our weather has been in the teens and twenties but very clear and calm, except several inches of snow that came down Saturday.
I’ll just end by repeating be safe and be smart
God bless and God speed.
Oh, I’m crystal clear on the point of the books. It’s just that the whole thing is so deeply ironic.
Like the Flat Earth Society having a fundraiser by selling globes.
Apparently, the Cruzes left behind - in the “FREEZING” house - the family dog, “Snowflake”. The dog was at the house when Cruz returned to concentrate his efforts to provide Texans relief spin his giant fuck-up. He didn’t stop on the way from the airport, so…
A certain presidential historian was in fine form yesterday roasting Texas politicians…

Cruz naming his dog Snowflake is evidence that he hates his dog, right?
This can’t be real.
Well, Cruz hates everyone as much as they hate him, so yes.
According to this graphic ERCOT used in a press release last November, very little of their wind and solar capacity is “winter-rated”:
Late to the party here, been busy at work. This is fairly ridiculous. ERCOT services 90% of Texas, including all of the large population centers, 268,597 sq.mi. land mass and 29M people can only muster 35MW of wintertime solar capacity at a sunny 30˚N and tiny Vermont, with its 624K people and 9,623 sq.mi. mountainous, forested land mass at 45˚N has 306MW capacity. That’s just shameful. Talk about an utter and complete wasted resource. Texas can’t generate what it needs in an emergency and cold, snowy VT sells its extra capacity off to Mass and the Canadians up in Montreal. And, don’t get me started about the ERCOT PR people crying “anomalous weather”. This is not once-per-century event, it’s a once every 10-15 year event, well within the capital expenditure planning boundaries for commodity utility providers. This was 100% gross mismanagement and criminal negligence on their part.
This can’t be real.
Screenshot it from Jr’s Twitter feed myself.
