I’m actually shocked that Apple hasn’t just binned the wired connection entirely.
I think they’re working on it, but the technology is just too slow right now.

While Apple allows users to block apps from logging your activity, including the Safari browser app, Google goes full-on Big Brother.
I quit using Chrome a couple of years ago - Firefox on my Windows PCs, Safari on my Macs. Stuff like this definitely reinforces my decision. The web browser space desperately needs more non-Chrome-based competition.
I’ve been using Brave as my browser. But their search engine isn’t that great so sometimes I’ll use google, duck duck, Bing, etc… for searches – depending on what I’m searching for.
Any word on the new iPhone? Did they bring back the headphone jack?
It’s got a USB-C connector instead of the Lightning connector. That’s about it.
A special Apple USB-C connector?
I also read where it has a new button. That’s a hug selling point.
Sorry…yes, a new “Action” button. Basically, it’s the ringer silence switch, but now it’s a button and you can tell it to do other things instead.
Also, you can back-charge your AirPods from the iPhone.
Also, also, you can throw away yet another generation of white wires.
Way to bury the lead.
[golf clap]
I also now read that the iPhone’s USB-C port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds, which apparently is like 30 year old technology?
I think they said the 15 Pro gets 3.0. If you have the standard 15, I’m not sure you’d ever need the extra speed.
Thank God Tim Apple and Co. are here to tell us what we need and don’t need.
The fact that the USB-C allows for “vehicle to load” functionality ticked me off somewhat. If they’d stopped being stubborn and made this switch years ago, this would always have been a feature. Hopefully they will go USB-C for everything now, and end this technological clusterfuck.
Jobs made sure that everything connected to everything else, and Tim Apple et al broke that within a few months of Jobs’ death. For example, Apple TVs have a USB-C port while the accompanying remote has a Lightning connector for charging. They have recently switched the remote to USB-C, but it’s moot as the Apple TV’s port has never been able to charge anything as it’s for maintenance only.
They brought in the MagSafe connector for charging laptops - fantastic tech, IMHO - only then to kill it in favor of a single USB-C port for everything, while bringing MagSafe to the iPhone. They actually deleted all the non-USB-C ports on their laptops, forcing customers to buy an ever-increasing number of dongles. WTF?
They did reverse course on this a few years later and brought back all the ports including the MagSafe charger, but they hung out to dry a swath of dedicated customers who bought the unconnectable laptops in the meantime. Of course, those laptops won’t be that long lived as, without the MagSafe charger, they’ll all eventually get yeeted off a lap and onto a hard floor when someone trips on the power cord.
The stubborn refusal to get fully on board the USB-C train was/is baffling to me. Literally every other piece of current tech uses it.
…and about 50% of Apple’s products used it. I think that, before yesterday, it was only iPhones and iPads that were still using Lightning.
I’m good with the USB-C change. Better late than never. I’ve had my 10S for five years now and it’s about time to upgrade. I think I’ll go for the 15 Pro and hope to go another 5-6 years without upgrading again.
This is me. I ran an iPhone 7 until my tech team threatened to brick it and gave me an iPhone 14 last year. I’ll do the same with this unit till they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
