“Few years” being like this next year. Things are coming to a head on Springer and Correa.
Right. Springer is an FA after this season. Correa is eligible to be an FA after 2021.
That’s a lot of money and years. Good for Harris. Better for runners he inherits.
To this point, the Astros currently have the third-highest payroll in baseball behind the Yankees and Red Sox.
Well, dear accountants, to me this off season has been awful because of “self-imposed budget limits,” whatever they are. The Golden Era of Astros baseball may have screeched to a halt when the lucky F’ing home run clanged off the foul pole. Who knew? I certainly did not at the time.
What is possible going forward? Trades? This pitching staff is not a WS contender no matter how good the lineup is. Whitley? Ha! He first has to prove himself in AAA and to erase the massive doubts he created last year. When we cannot afford Chirinos, times are tough.
It does seem a bit like they’ve thrown in the towel doesn’t it? I can’t help but thinking that this investigation has something to do with that but that may be, hopefully, just the dark side of me taking over. I can’t wait for ST to get here to exorcise some of those demons.
We’re still over a week away from the point at which the Astros traded for Cole in January 2018. Even though the FA options are drying up, they still have plenty of time to do something. And given the payroll limitations, maybe acquisitions via trade/salary dump were always more likely.
I wonder how much the impending sanctions have to do with the lack signings. I’m hearing Luhnow, AJ 1 season ban, loss of 2-4 draft picks, and a monetary fine…
I certainly hope that is more bs rumor. A one season ban is crazy, and I hope there is the usual nothing to it.
The only way I could fathom suspensions would be if they had proof electronic sign stealing took place after 2017. Recall that Manfred’s cut-it-out edict came late in that season.
But they don’t have to meet a legal standard and so far Rob hasn’t called to get my opinion.

Manfred has to appease the Yankees. I’ll be shocked if there are no suspensions.
Drehlich now goes after the team which fired him.
From the Article.
Three people who were with the Red Sox during their 108-win 2018 season told The Athletic that during that regular season, at least some players visited the video replay room during games to learn the sign sequence opponents were using. The replay room is just steps from the home dugout at Fenway Park, through the same doors that lead to the batting cage. Every team’s replay staff travels to road games, making the system viable in other parks as well.
Major League Baseball said in a statement, “The Commissioner made clear in a September 15, 2017 memorandum to clubs how seriously he would take any future violation of the regulations regarding use of electronic equipment or the inappropriate use of the video replay room. Given these allegations, MLB will commence an investigation into this matter.”
Manfort is pissed that teams refused to heed the warning. Im guessing Cora ends up suspended too.
The article also talks briefly about the Yankees using technology to cheat.
And Cora will claim he learned it from the Astros.
Ha. I don’t think that will earn him any leniency
Still wondering how watching a video in real time is any different from watching yesterday’s video after the game is over to learn sign stuff. The missing link still is communicating to the hitter after watching in real time.
Of course, MLB may have created and imposed a rule which said no watching the game on video during the game regardless of communication to the hitter. Did the no watching rule mean guys on the field also must ignore what they see. Not a lot of difference to me.
from the article, such BS
Many inside the sport believe there is cheating and then there is cheating -cheating. In this view, the Astros undertook the latter, while more indirect video-room efforts — at least before late 2017 — counted as the former.
Come on Evan.
Typical hatchet job.

I shouldve added Taubman getting banned for life.
