History fans

If anyone is interested in history I stumbled upon a couple of Youtube channels that I love

The Fat Electrician has very entertaining videos about historical events and people with a focus on the military.

The Fat Files is same guy who looks at the history of businesses and other things such as specific government programs.

Highly recommended.

Thank you.

I love history and will check these out.

I have really enjoyed the podcast History That Doesn’t Suck

A YT channel that combines history and movies is History Buffs. He takes an historical event from a movie, details the actual history and then shows how true to history the movie is.

His Braveheart meltdown is epic.

Can’t beat The Operations Room for notable battles.

I thought it was a terrible movie when it came out.

Like an adolescent kid’s hero fantasy put to the screen.

Similar to most Adam Sandler movies in that respect.

It has not aged well. Like Mel Gibson.

Love this channel.

Someone (cough, Spielberg, cough) should make a miniseries about the naval war in the Pacific. The Battle of the Leyte Gulf and the story of ‘Taffy 3’ is more than enough to get it started

The “Oversimplified” videos on YouTube are a lot of fun. The history is pretty good too, although oversimplified.

I’m reading the first volume of Ian Toll’s Pacific War trilogy right now and loving it. I had forgotten about Chester Nimitz’s Central Texas roots. Does anyone know if the Nimitz Hotel is still in Fredericksburg?

The building is still there. It’s now the Nimitz Gallery of the National Museum of the Pacific War.

Growing up, whenever we drove home to Austin to see family, we’d stop at the Nimitz Museum. Really loved it. That was a hell of a long time ago, though. I don’t recognize Fredericksburg anymore.

In the podcast realm, Mike Duncan is pretty great

History of Rome and Revolutions are both a fun listen

Some kook around here, I think it was moriartyp, recommended this a number of years ago, and I fell into the quicksand and have not been able to climb back out. Also, I haven’t tried to.

The history of revolutions is instructional these days.

They’ve been around for a few years but Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History is a great listen. Particularly the “Supernova in the East” series, along with the “King of Kings” series.
