Halos at Astros, 6/1/23

That is a start.

Drury just squeezes one over the corner of the 3B bag for a double.

3U moves the runner but there are 2outs.

Ballgame!!

5-2

Blanco did well

Contributions throughout the lineup.

Abreu hit 3 balls hard.

Get a guy making his major league debut as a starter and go home with a win, that’s pretty good. The Twins series is a series the team should have won, so let’s make up for that now and going forward.

A win where Bregman and Abreu drive in 4 of the 5 runs is a very, very welcome development.

Here here, let’s get Urquidy back for the trifecta

Ronel Blanco is the oldest starter in the Astros rotation. I’m not even sure what to think about this.

I have some high hopes for Blanco.

Yeah, but he’s still late on damn near all fastballs…even in hitter’s counts. One AB I think he was in a 2-0 count and got a middle-middle fastball and was late on it. Double was great, but I’m pretty sure he was in 2-strike count protecting against fastball and then got breaking ball in middle third of the plate. Pitcher sped his bat up IMO. Sorry to be pessimistic. He does seem to be having better ABs so hopefully he’s on the road back to getting right.

Holy cow, you are awfully damn picky. If he hits doubles and homers to RCF or RF like Chas, are going to criticize him for being ā€œlate?ā€

Of course not, lol, but you make a good point. Maybe that’s just how he rolls with his mentality and plan at the plate. As you posted above, Chas loves driving the ball the other way.

All of the Chas Power is to RCF, always has been.

Abreu turned on 2 in Oakland, one left the yard.

Last night he hit the bullpen fence on LCF on the fly.

Signs of progress.

Maybe it is only my personal preference, but I preferred guys who could pull the middle-in pitch but whose basic approach was up the middle and opposite field.

Checked on this from Chandler Rome’s article today:

Bregman is hitting .322/.368/.483 since May 8.

Not noted in that article: over that span, Maldonado has a higher OBP and SLG than both Tucker and PeƱa.

Also over that span: Chas .152/.204/.348

I haven’t looked and don’t know where to find such a thing, but it looks to me like Chas is starting to pull more balls recently.

He hit a really good one to left the other day.
