Getting Closer to "Play ball"

We did not, and that was a big mistake.

We enjoyed it very much, too.

Yes. A great retro experience.

Lisbon is well worth the trip. The Algarve is nice, too. All in all, though, I prefer Italy.

Lisbon is a pretty low-key kind of place. If you go, you have to go to the government-run port tasting outlet. The waiters are essentially tenured, and have developed a culture of indifference and rudeness that is so out of whack that experiencing it is unforgettable.

I thought that the COVID was going to be so bad that the 60-game season would never materialize, but it’s looking like we’re actually going to see at least the start of a shortened season.

Just for fun, I went back and looked at the Astros best and worst 60-game stretches from 2019. The best stretch was a W-L of 43-17 (a 71.7% win percentage, equivalent to 116 wins in a full season) and their worst stretch was 35-25 (58% / ~94 wins). It’s a different set of players this year and weird stuff happens in short stretches, so that isn’t really predictive, but I’m setting my expectations at a 35-38 win season.

That is, IF they get to play a whole season. I’ve got a side bet going that at least one team totally craps out and can’t field a team due to a clubhouse-wide infection. I hope I’m wrong.

Why have a season in the first place and not a big fun tournament? I guess they get additional revenue for additional playoff games?

What a shitshow.

Man, fuck this. Seriously, fuck this in so many ways. MLB is actually worse than the NBA. It’s rigged, sure, but it’s become one big TikTok video. It’s absolutely incredible to me that anyone wants to have anything to do with this.

It is a total and complete joke.

Open your minds people.

Maybe Ryan Seacrest can host.

Who gets voted off first?

Immunity challenges.

Managers can present a single rose to an opposing player and steal him.

Cleanup hitters start the game in an escape room. Maybe they get out, maybe they don’t.

When I first heard about what the NBA is doing I thought of that–pro sports like a reality show, each week a team gets “voted” off until there’s only one standing. Surprised MLB hasn’t thought of that.

I have never cared less about an MLB season in my life. The idea of trying to play professional team sports for money and entertainment purposes as a pandemic rages across the U.S. is selfish and poorly thought out in my opinion. Right now, you aren’t even allowed to have you and 17 of your friends go to a field and start a pickup baseball game in many states/cities around the country, but, yet, it’s alright for millionaires to do so.

i keep hearing its because they are professional and that is their job…so why not let everyone else go back to work?

This might be the dumbest thing ever posted on this site.

MLB network saying they are hearing first round will be a 3 game series with all three games being played in the stadium of the team with the better seeding.

She has the top 10 or 15.
