Once when I was small (4 or 5) we were at Bryce National Park. My mother was holding my hand as we walked along one of the overlooks.
I wiggled free and ran ahead. She grabbed me pointed to a hole in the fence and said don’t do that I might fall and what would happen if I slipped thru that hole etc.
I distinctly remember thinking “well I would hold on to the fence then superman would fly over and rescue me”.
The most annoying, dislikable, useless, actually drag down an awesome show character ever is Betty Draper from Mad Men. Great show…would have been so much better without her.
Finally getting around to watching this one. I’m enjoying it, and the lead actor clearly has the physique that matches the character from the novels. His acting, though, is barely adequate.
I keep hearing every line he delivers repeated in my head by the Tom Cruise version, and it’s much, much better.
Reacher keeps conversation to a minimum, and mostly communicates in glib quips and dry comments. Cruise was built to play the character, apart from being a full foot too short.
I liked the Cruise movie (the first one, the sequel was poor). I suppose it’s similar to liking the first version of a song you hear; it doesn’t matter if you find out it’s a cover, you will never like other versions more than the first one you heard.
sure you have. He only makes the same movie. It’s like unironically saying you only saw one Fast and Furious movie or one Mission Impossible. THEY’RE ALL THE SAME MOVIE MAN!!! (I’ll get me coat)
I’ve listened to the audio versions of the Reacher books on road trips–they’re the perfect road trip distraction. You could listen to one, then wait a bit and listen to it again, and only vaguely care that it was a repeat.
Anyway, a big part of the books is Reacher’s size. He is naturally fit and huge, like a super hero should be. Having Cruise play Reacher was so weirdly weird. For someone with familiarity with the books, it was deeply off-putting.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the trauma. The tv series Reacher didn’t need to be a great actor. He just needed to be huge, and fit.
