The U.S. military operates the 3rd largest vehicle fleet in the world at 177k vehicles. Third only to the Postal Service at 200K and GSA at 250k. The largest commercial fleets are way less at 66k for AT&T and 60K for PepsiCo. Massive fleets like DOD, USPS and GSA are absolutely game changers especially since their operated hours per vehicle dwarf things like privately owned vehicles.
Without saying directly, POTUS is also tangentially talking about research in the air and sea transportation domains. Look at the military MVP investment in companies like Beta Technologies as an example.

I get that it’s a game changer. It doesn’t make it any less weird hearing about how these weapons are better for the planet.

Everyone loves Amazon delivery quality so far
They are expected to pass AT&T this year. They’ve made significant capital investments in transport but a large percentage ($1.5B) is on planes and a flight transport hub. They are spinning up LaaS (logistics as a service) over the next 18 months but will continue to heavily use 3rd party roadway transportation as a stop-gap to let tech catch up to their design (autonomous, electric trucks and “last mile” drones). Unbelievably, they have 400,000 contracted and employee driver staff and 70k+ of them should be employees by years’s end. That number could be as much as 2 quarters stale and the unionization push underway over there could change these projections and their developing business strategy.
At least they’re not the US Postal Service, who Trump complained people treat like some kind of letter and package delivery service.
