There are a few reports saying that Dotel has been rescued and is alive. I hope that is the case.

He was alive and buried, the story I read said.

World Series champ Octavio Dotel was one of the lucky few pulled alive from the rubble of a Dominican Republic nightclub after a roof collapse that left at least 27 people dead Tuesday, according to sources and local media reports.

Now seeing reports that Dotel has passed away. Terrible news if true.

Chronicle confirms Dotel died in the incident.

Wow, was he alive when rescued or were those reports wrong?

ETA: the Chronicle answered that.

Also among those killed in the incident is Nelsy Cruz, sister of Nelson Cruz and governor of the D.R. province of Montecristi. The singer, who they went to see perform, is Rubby Perez, brother of Neifi Perez.

I will never forget the 4-strikeout inning he threw in the combined no-hitter against the Yankees.

I was in a pitched battle here with some adversary whose name escapes me. The issue was Dotel as a failed starter and what the team should do with him. My opponent said trade him or release him because he could not be a reliable starter. My argument was my oft-repeated mantra about others every now and then: The Astros cannot/should not give up on an arm like he has. When he became a lights-out reliever, I felt vindicated.

Lidge to Dotel to Wagner. Games were over with a lead after 6.

Neris back in the bigs with the Halos. He’d thrown a few innings for their AAA team after getting let go by Atlanta earlier this season.

Pressly got lit up in a very bad way last night against the Giants, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on five hits without recording a single out in the 11th inning. Pressly took over for the top half of the 11th inning with the score knotted at 5-5. He faced eight batters in total — five of them reached via base hit, Pressly also walked one, hit one and allowed another to reach on a sacrifice bunt. All eight runners, as well as the inherited runner to open the 11th inning, wound up coming around to score. His ERA went from 2.08 to 7.62.

I just read about him and his declining stuff in The Athletic. That was a very good trade imo.

He was visually declining last year. All of his breaking pitches were getting worse, and he really struggled to finish batters.

Amen

Yep. I appreciate all he did, but I applauded the trade.

Two other ex-Astros had notable roles in this game.

  1. Verlander was the potential winning pitcher until Cubs tied it up. He is still winless as a Giant and the bullpen has blown at least two possible wins for him.

  2. Tucker had the two out RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of ninth.

Tucker is having a nice season so far. So is Bregman.

Not sure Tucker will get the $500M he is hoping for. If he does, more power to him. I suspect he has the right temperament to thrive in a place like the Bronx.
