I think the comfort and convenience of rail over flying was the real story there. Especially now that flying is the new Greyhound bus; taking a train long distance is a joy.
I have taken Amtak from San Marcos to Ft Worth twice in the past 3 years. The first time was a joy. The second time was more a novelty. It’s nice to not drive and to be able to read, look out the windows, and drink beer.
I’ve never been on a high speed train. I sure it would be quite different than Amtrak.
According to the clip, the Houston station is going to be at the site of the old NW mall. Not horrible for downtown, but requiring an Uber because, you know, no light rail.
Technically I think that depends on whether Rivian ever intended to sell trucks at the original stated prices. Ultimately, though, that’s a distinction without a difference.
