Using the public streets of the United States as your testing lab is an appalling idea. Can’t understand how it was ever legal.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s competition - notably not legacy auto makers - are catching up. To wit:
Polestar should, of course, be the name of the lead character in the porn spoof of Guardians of the Galaxy which, of course, would be called Marauders of the Mammaries. The rest of the crew would be made up of Mamora, Dix, a ferret called Fuckit and a giant talking dildo called Root.
Volvo isn’t a legacy automaker?
Good point. I was taking a shot at Ford and GM, and missed.
I’m picturing everyone in Delta House throwing things at Flounder’s picture.
I don’t care, just build me a truck
Musk confirmed in yesterday’s earnings call that Giga Texas is rolling Model Ys off the line with the 4680 batteries, structural battery pack and gigapressed body form.
So the structural rigidity will be better, the overall weight will be lower and the batteries will have greater capacity.
You are leaving out all the promises they have broken, and the new promises that they will inevitably end up breaking.
There are photos of new Ys lined up at the factory, so that part is true. I agree that Musk typically over promises and under delivers, but the technology behind the new battery etc. suggests it will improve the areas discussed, it al, a question of by how much.
I wouldn’t buy one of the new ones yet, though.
Speaking of batteries…LG’s new spin off battery company went public yesterday and was trading at almost $300 a share.
Very interesting.
Looks to have a heat pump for regular cabin heat, but has a resistive heater that you can kick in when needed (like the Audi eTron GT). That heating, the long range, decent ground clearance (estimated at 7") makes this a real option for someone thinking of moving to a cold/snowy climate…
I do keep cycling back to Teslas after the latest “Tesla killer” comes out and proves to be severely lacking in some significant area(s), but this one looks like it has the goods. I’m not sold on Tesla’s minimalist interior and - while I have to doff the ol’ cap to Musk for propelling this EV revolution - he’s a colossal prick and flagrant “exaggerator”.
So my head keeps coming back to Tesla while my soul yearns for a proper alternative. The EV6 might just be that. The problem that all non-Tesla EVs have is the poor development of charging infrastructure. I don’t anticipate doing much long distance driving, so home charging will take care of almost all such needs, but being stuck out on a freeway because the nearest charging stations are out of service is a genuine concern.
This will get better over time, though, while Musk gets more smug and ridiculous by the day. Being pot-committed to his vehicle and infrastructure is an uncomfortable place to be.
These are being used as taxis more commonly these days so I’ve ridden in a few. The interior was comfortable and looked impressive. Especially considering how long Kia waited to get in on the EV game.
Also his pronunciation of “Hyundai” makes me want to stab my brain.
Chevy unveiled their Silverado EV. I was intrigued by the renderings, but then saw the actual vehicle. Holy fuck that thing is hideous. I will not be placing a pre-order for that monstrosity.
I think we should all buy an electric truck and move into one of these. Living Vehicle : Luxury Unplugged
This is bad.
Of all the states I’ve lived in (including North Carolina in the 80’s and Kentucky in the 70’s), California remains the most racist place I’ve ever lived. It was overt and revolting. Of all the countries in which I’ve spent considerable time, only Saudi Arabia was more racist than California.
