Perhaps the goal of the play was not to force a choice from the defender.
Perhaps it was designed for the defense to ponder the choice that two young men, wrapped in athletic embrace, made in the heat of battle in full view of 100,000 people.
Perhaps we should all ponder that choice and admire their boldness.
Looking back at replay, that has to have been a planned move from Tucker. He was already on the bag when the pitcher stepped off. He immediately broke for home. Iām gonna give him, or whomever called it, an A+ for strategy.
I even think his stumble was intentional, so that they would definitely come get him. Of course, the best way to guarantee that would have been just to continue on to home plate.
You only get one shot at an appeal, and it has to be before the next pitch or a play on another runner. It also has to be on a live ball. So they could have continued the appeal, but Tucker is free to advance if they do. Once they made a play on Tucker, they lost the opportunity to appeal Yuli leaving early.
