COVID-19

My mom always sent out their Christmas Cards.

Look at this shit. The south is still riddled with the virus, as it has been for months now. The only place that looks worse is California’s central valley; and that’s Nunes, McCarthy country.

Is it just me, or does it seem like nothing is going to change unless and until Joe Biden takes office on January 20? He’s going to have to announce a nationwide stay-at-home order during his inauguration speech - time will be that critical.

Do you really think folks that find wearing a mask to be too much of an imposition will obey such an order? They’ll just dare officials to arrest them. In some municipalities, the officials won’t do it. In others, they’ll quickly overwhelm jails or whatever (not to mention that jamming people in jails would be counter to what you’re trying to accomplish in the first place).

This country is going to have a spasm of violence at some point, and that point is growing nearer.

I am sincerely afraid you are right.

Here’s a short documentary film that shows the process by which some of the above mentioned ‘sources’ crafted their critiques of science:

Wait, those were Currier and Ives that she sent.

I was a big fan of Ives’ music.

On the vanishingly small chance you’re being sincere and not simply trolling, here are some obvious facts which should answer your questions:

Science existed before computers.
Scientific models existed before computers.
Physicists are scientists.
Not all physicists are computer programmers.

Since scientific models existed before computers, it is reasonable to infer that computer programming is not necessary to create a useful scientific model.

If you’re being purposely obtuse, it’s getting pretty fucking old.

It got pretty fucking old a long time ago. He should be ignored or banned.

My questions are sincere, but I was wrong to post them here.
My apologies for hijacking this thread.

UNC cratered on in person after one week. Texas ISDs are going to be a nightmare. Glad my kids are grown.

My sister is a chemistry teacher at a Catholic high school in Denver. She says they are teaching only half the class at a time. She says she feels safe, but who knows.

I’m at a school that was the last college in its very red Southern state to close in March, where the running joke (long before the virus) was “we won’t even close for an active shooter,” and I’m really getting a kick out of these replies…
