I got chicken pox as a junior in high school. I set off an outbreak at the school. It was great for my popularity.
The White House is now trashing Dr. Fauci, trying to pin this whole mess on āmistakeā he made. The flying monkeys are out in full force too.
This is insane. The pandemic here is exploding and Trump chooses to throw under a bus the people who could help lead us out of it.
The pandemic is 5 months old and has killed nearly 140,000 people; starting from zero cases. According to Worldometers, we have 1.7 million active cases right now, and 7 months until the earliest point that Trump can be removed from office.
1 in 54 people in Florida has the ārona. They opened DisneyWorld this weekend.
Are people actually going to DisneyWorld?
Do you live in America or know any Americans?
Iām trying to come to terms with the stupidity that Iām reading about. Like I know Americans are stupid but weāre reaching new levels.
āNeilT! You just got the coronavirus!ā
āIām going to DisneyWorld!ā
Iām trying to remember the last election of any kind that I didnāt vote in. I usually can be counted on to vote in anything, city council runoffs, primary runoffs, or if the proverbial dog catcher was an elected position. But Iām not feeling very inspired to get out into the world today.
I guess mainly I donāt have terribly strong feelings about Hegar or West, and the down ballot runoffs on the dem side donāt seem very compelling (other than the judge running for reelection while fighting off federal indictment for embezzlement of campaign funds). Also, my usual polling place is closed this go round. I might drive the nearest polling place to make sure thereās no line, but might not.
I almost always voted early. And I voted against that judge you mentioned.
I liked her a lot (at least more than most lawyers, who I think reacted negatively to the amount of personality she brought to the bench). She presided over my first jury trial.
But yeah, itās tough to look past corruption charges.
Youāve described my situation also. Iāll sit this one out, but only death or near-death will stop me in November.
I never miss voting. Never. Apathy elected Trump. I also always vote early.
I admire that. How was early voting? Did it seem safe?
I voted early and highly recommend it (at least in Houston). I went to the Multi-cultural center on West Gray. they are set up in the gym, so much larger space. You get wipes, a rubber finger tip, and a sticker.
And there was no line, but there is plenty of room for when early voting starts for the general election.
I voted early during the runoff. Iām thinking of applying for a mail ballot for November. Iām not 65. I donāt think there is going to be a single moment when the polls arenāt going to be packed.
Early voting is very safe. I will do it again for November. Mail ballots may not be counted.
Iām in the same boat as Bench - no strong preferences in the run-offs so Iām not going to go out there. Itās notable that Abbott exempted voting from his mask-wearing ordinance.
My company is giving everyone the day off on election day, which is great, but I plan to early-vote in the general election. I am moving out of Dan Crenshawās district which, unfortunately, I donāt get to vote against him again. I am moving into Lizzie Fletcherās though, so thatās a huge upgrade in representation.
If I just stand still long enough Iāll likely move out again too.
I know you know this, but apathy, doubt and fear are precisely what the Republicans are intent on engendering.
