COVID-19

I got chicken pox as a junior in high school. I set off an outbreak at the school. It was great for my popularity.

The White House is now trashing Dr. Fauci, trying to pin this whole mess on ā€œmistakeā€ he made. The flying monkeys are out in full force too.

This is insane. The pandemic here is exploding and Trump chooses to throw under a bus the people who could help lead us out of it.

The pandemic is 5 months old and has killed nearly 140,000 people; starting from zero cases. According to Worldometers, we have 1.7 million active cases right now, and 7 months until the earliest point that Trump can be removed from office.

1 in 54 people in Florida has the ā€˜rona. They opened DisneyWorld this weekend.

Are people actually going to DisneyWorld?

Do you live in America or know any Americans?

Iā€™m trying to come to terms with the stupidity that Iā€™m reading about. Like I know Americans are stupid but weā€™re reaching new levels.

Good news! Weā€™re not getting dumber.

Iā€™m trying to remember the last election of any kind that I didnā€™t vote in. I usually can be counted on to vote in anything, city council runoffs, primary runoffs, or if the proverbial dog catcher was an elected position. But Iā€™m not feeling very inspired to get out into the world today.

I guess mainly I donā€™t have terribly strong feelings about Hegar or West, and the down ballot runoffs on the dem side donā€™t seem very compelling (other than the judge running for reelection while fighting off federal indictment for embezzlement of campaign funds). Also, my usual polling place is closed this go round. I might drive the nearest polling place to make sure thereā€™s no line, but might not.

I almost always voted early. And I voted against that judge you mentioned.

I liked her a lot (at least more than most lawyers, who I think reacted negatively to the amount of personality she brought to the bench). She presided over my first jury trial.

But yeah, itā€™s tough to look past corruption charges.

Youā€™ve described my situation also. Iā€™ll sit this one out, but only death or near-death will stop me in November.

I never miss voting. Never. Apathy elected Trump. I also always vote early.

I admire that. How was early voting? Did it seem safe?

I voted early and highly recommend it (at least in Houston). I went to the Multi-cultural center on West Gray. they are set up in the gym, so much larger space. You get wipes, a rubber finger tip, and a sticker.

And there was no line, but there is plenty of room for when early voting starts for the general election.

I voted early during the runoff. Iā€™m thinking of applying for a mail ballot for November. Iā€™m not 65. I donā€™t think there is going to be a single moment when the polls arenā€™t going to be packed.

Early voting is very safe. I will do it again for November. Mail ballots may not be counted.

Iā€™m in the same boat as Bench - no strong preferences in the run-offs so Iā€™m not going to go out there. Itā€™s notable that Abbott exempted voting from his mask-wearing ordinance.

My company is giving everyone the day off on election day, which is great, but I plan to early-vote in the general election. I am moving out of Dan Crenshawā€™s district which, unfortunately, I donā€™t get to vote against him again. I am moving into Lizzie Fletcherā€™s though, so thatā€™s a huge upgrade in representation.

If I just stand still long enough Iā€™ll likely move out again too.

I know you know this, but apathy, doubt and fear are precisely what the Republicans are intent on engendering.
